Dr Keith Reeve
Dr Keith Reeve is a retired Australian ceramist, is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, a Member of the World Academy of Ceramics and an Emeritus Member of the American Ceramic Society. In 1997, he was awarded Membership of the Order of Australia (AM) for his service to ceramic science and education.
Dr Reeve spent the years 1958-1992 as leader of nuclear ceramics research at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) at Lucas Heights near Sydney, and was a Senior Fellow at ANSTO from 1992 to 1995. His research interests included the development of a High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor fuel based on beryllium oxide and the development of Synroc, a synthetic ceramic titanate waste form for radioactive waste fixation. He was also a leading figure in the growth of the Australian (now Australasian) Ceramic Society from its formation in the early 1960s, serving as its Foundation Journal Editor from 1965 to 1984 and as Federal Secretary from 1976 to 1995. He is an Honorary Life Member of the Society. In the 1990s he led the forging of links between the Australasian Ceramic Society and the Ceramic Societies of Japan and Korea. From 1980 to 1995, he served on the Editorial Board of “Ceramics International”.
