Koji Watari
Koji Watari is a group leader and senior research scientist in the Advanced Sintering Technology Group, Advanced Manufacturing Research Institute, within the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Japan, and guest professor of Nagaoka University of Technology. His research focuses on the low energy processing of advanced ceramics and its characterization.
He received his BS, MS, and DEng degrees in materials science and engineering from Nagaoka University of Technology. After receiving his PhD degree, Watari worked at the National Industrial Research Institute of Nagoya (NIRIN) as a research scientist between 1990 and 2000, and also worked in the Materials Research Laboratory at The Pennsylvania State University (1998-1999) and at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in Japan (1999-2000).
Watari has authored more than 150 publications and holds 20 patents in materials engineering. He has received the Young Scientist Award from the Ceramic Society of Japan and five “best paper” awards from international conferences. He is a member of the Materials Research Society, the American Ceramic Society, and the Ceramic Society of Japan.
