Professor Ron Stevens BSc. Ph.D. F.I.M., C.Eng.
Professor Stevens graduated from the University of Wales with a BSc in Metallurgy and stayed on at Swansea to complete his PhD on High Temperature Creep and Fracture Mechanisms of Metals Containing Dispersed Phases. Having worked at Atomic Energy of Canada for four years he returned to Swansea University before moving to a government research laboratory
The theme underlying the research of Prof. Stevens has been microstructure-property relationships of advanced engineering materials. He was awarded a personal chair in engineering ceramics some twelve years after joining the Department of Ceramics at Leeds University, and later moved to Bath University to become Head of the Department of Materials His research has often been relevant to industrial needs as a consequence of his early career in government research laboratories (Atomic Energy of Canada and Electricity Research Council, UK ), where effort had always been made to work on the underlying science of industrially relevant problems. In the course of this research he has published extensively papers in international journals, the majority being concerned with structural ceramics and ceramic composites. He holds several patents. Throughout this research he has been interested in the development of microstructure- property relationships and the generation and fabrication of novel and innovative microstructures. He is now Professor of Materials Science in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Bath University.
