Aluminium - The Resource
Aluminium is one of the most abundant elements in the earths crust. The extraction, refining and environmental impacts of these processes are considered, as are recycling, and future product and process developments.

Aluminium Smelting - Reprocessing of Spent Pot Linings
Spent pot linings are a by-product of the aluminium smelting process. Disposing of these materials has been a headache, but new technology is now able to process the materials into useful, harmless materials. The process, its advantages (including environemntal) and its products are described.

News Item: Aluminium Smelting Waste - New Recycling Technique
A new technology for recycling spent pot linings from aluminium smelters has been developed by Portland Aluminium, Alcoa, Ausmelt and CSIRO. The technology converts the waste product into aluminium fluoride and a synthetic sand, both of which can be re-used. Posted November 16 2001
