| A new form of brass, termed ‘filial brass’ has been developed by Fibretech Ltd using the rapid solidification process with patented melt overflow technology. The process involves spinning semi-continuous or discrete short lengths of metals and alloys for use as composite reinforcements. Applications include catalytic exhaust systems for cars and motorcycles, and as thermally conductive fibres for vehicle brake pads. Full analysis of the fibres has not yet been carried out, but Fibretech has recently initiated a formal research programme at Cambridge University to investigate the joining and sintering of these novel materials. |
