Experts at Ceram the internationally renowned centre for
materials and technology, based in Stoke-on-Trent, are able to spread their
knowledge across the Atlantic thanks to a successful marketing and commercial
collaboration with a North American world renowned materials evaluation
laboratory.
The M & P Laboratory has two facilities. The main
headquarters are located in Schenectady, New York and in 2001, a second facility
was opened in Greenville South Carolina. They offer a full materials testing and
analysis service to clients, who come from a range of industries including;
defence, aerospace, automotive and medical devices, and combined with the
extensive knowledge of ceramics available from Ceram, the collaboration offers
customers on both sides of the Atlantic a formidable capability.
One recent project was for SuperPower,Inc a Subsidiary of
Intermagnetics General Corporation, in New York. Ceram was called in to help solve
processing issues with SuperPower Incs second generation high temperature
superconductor product.
Specialists at Ceram were able to analyse numerous samples using SIMS and
XPS techniques, and were able to determine what the current carrying limitations
were in the product.
Mark Berrisford of Ceram explained: “As well as being able to supply
SuperPower Inc with high quality data, we were able to use our expertise and
experience to analyse the data; help our client to understand the
microstructural variations within our samples and, with that knowledge they were
able to improve the quality of their product. “
Dr.Jodi Reeves, of SuperPower Inc commented: “Ceram went beyond just providing a
written report as, through conference calls, they helped us understand the data
and act accordingly. We were so
pleased with the results we have recommended Ceram to our colleagues.”
Mark Berrisford continued: “We are already beginning to
establish a reputation in North America and hope that our collaboration with The
M & P Lab will lead us to be able to help more companies across the
Atlantic.” |
