Background

The Zwick multiXtens is a universally deployable, high-resolution extensometer. With its specially designed sensor arms, the multiXtens can be used for tensile, compression, flexure, and cyclic tests. This extensometer particularly proves its mettle in the testing of plastics, elastomers, and hard foams as well as metals or composites. With its very high measuring accuracy and extremely large measurement range, the multiXtens is ideal for changing applications that place a wide variety of demands on an elongation measurement system such as when testing plastic and metal specimens.

Not only does the multiXtens offer the user highest measuring flexibility, it is top-ranking in measuring accuracy. This versatile extensometer yields highest precision at largest measurement ranges (up to 700 mm) and when deployed in temperature chambers. Deformation of the specimens in both the elastic and plastic areas is captured throughout the test.

With a third measurement carriage, fine strain extensometers and reduction in width monitors can be adapted to the multiXtens fully automatically - essential for accurate determination of key parameters such as the E-modulus, R- and N-values, and the Poisson ratio.

The extensometer is automatically controlled over the test program. At the beginning and end of testing, the sensor arms are automatically positioned, thus automatically determining the start value.

A high-precision swivel device allows the multiXtens to be positioned on the testing machine as desired for quickest changes between tests with and without extensometers.
