AZoM conducted a series of interviews at the MS&T 07 trade exhibition in Detroit between September 17 and 18. Here's what one of the exhibitors had to say when asked about their latest developments, products and technologies.
Interviewee: Michael Sturm, Business Development Manager, CoorsTek
Interviewer: Cameron Chai, AZoM
AZoM: This is Cameron Chai here from azom.com and I’m reporting from the MS&T trade show in Detroit, and I’ve now got with me Michael Sturm from CoorsTek. So Michael, how’s the trade show gone for you so far?
CoorsTek: Hello Cameron. The trade show’s gone fantastic so far. We’ve had a lot of traffic at our booth. Had some terrific leads. One of the interesting things about this trade show is we’re introducing a new product to the public. It’s called Durasense. It’s an alumina-toughened zirconia and it’s a potential replacement for our itrea stabilised zirconium material often used in oxygen sensors. So we will have a product brochure released probably within the next four weeks. But you can contact me directly at msturm@coorstek.com for more information about this material. For those of you who don’t know CoorsTek is the largest technical ceramics manufacturer in North America and at this show we are introducing our tubes and rods, extruded and cast products, primarily for the heat treating industry, vacuum tube furnaces and thermocouple market. And we’re looking for opportunities in the near future to increase our manufacturing efficiencies and offer these products to the public at a lower cost.
AZoM: Sounds great. So what sort of materials do you manufacture with?
CoorsTek: Primarily high density, high purity aluminas as well as mollite are the primary materials we’re offering at this show. We also offer high purity zirconias, silicon carbide and tungsten carbide materials.
AZoM: Sounds like a fairly comprehensive ceramic product range.
CoorsTek: Absolutely, absolutely.
AZoM: And what sort of … you mentioned you’re into the heat treatment market. What other markets do you sell products into?
CoorsTek: We sell into virtually every market. Our primary markets are semiconductor, electronics, defence and oil and gas. But we also have products in medical, computer peripherals, just about every market imaginable, automotive.
AZoM: Wear resistance.
CoorsTek: Biomedical, fuel cell, wear resistance, you know, every thing you can think of.
AZoM: And for anybody else who might not be familiar with things like alumina, what properties of alumina make it such an attractive material?
CoorsTek: Thermal properties, high temperature capability, maximum temperature use, thermal conductivity, strength versus glass, things of that nature.
AZoM: Corrosion resistance
CoorsTek: Corrosion resistance, wear resistance, absolutely.
AZoM: Alright. Thanks for spending a few minutes with us Michael, and we hope the rest of the trade show goes well for you and you get some good sales coming from the MS&T Trade Show.
CoorsTek: Thanks so much ,Cameron. Appreciate it
