Introduction

Fire retardant materials are designed to perform in extreme temperatures, capable of withstanding burn through's, to impinge flames, abrasion, sparks, molten metal splashes and corrosion from chemicals used in such environments. Used in a range of industries and application across the globe,  but how do Fire resistant fabrics and textiles survive in such environments?

To form heat resistant barriers, fabrics and Textiles such as fiberglass, silica, Kevlar®, Nomex®, and other are impregnanted with coatings including:

  • Silicone Rubber
  • Refractory Coating
  • PTFE
  • Vermiculite
  • Fluoroelastomer
  • Graphite
  • Urethane

Mid-Mountain Materials, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of high performance thermal insulation barriers and environmental protection products, serving a variety of industries worldwide. Specializing in coating fabrics and textiles of varying substrates with distinct polymer coating compounds, designed for use as thermal insulation, sealing components, environmental protection products and high temperature resistant products.

For use as fire and heat resistant insulation, pad and lagging material, welding safety protection, or maintenance applications, ARMATEX® Coated Fabrics and Textiles from Mid-Mountain Materials have been designed to offer heat resistant protection for all manner of applications. The ARMATEX® FIRESTAR Vermiculite Coated Fabric has been developed to perform in the most demanding of environments.

ARMATEX® FIRESTAR Vermiculite Coated Fabric

ARMATEX® FIRESTAR is a texturized E-glass fabric that has been coated with a vermiculite-based refractory coating, which greatly enhances the resistance to burn through, flame impingement, abrasion, sparks, molten metal splash and corrosion.   With a continuous operating temperature of 1500°F • 815°C, ARMATEX® FIRESTAR is excellent for use in the following applications:

  • Welding blankets and curtains
  • High temperature insulation
  • Thermal barriers
  • Removable thermal insulation jackets
  • Expansion joints
  • Stress relieving blankets
  • Gaskets and oven door seals

ARMATEX® FIRESTAR is available in a variety of weights, and can also be provided in tape form.
