Measuring Melt Flow with the Continuous Melt Rheometer

Monitoring Conditions for Consistent Results

The Dynisco CMR system consists of a rheometer head directly connected to the process which samples, conditions, and measures the resin’s melt flow, and a Rheologic Control unit (RCU) that controls the CMR test parameters, which include rate, pressure, temperature, and provides outputs of computed results, and communications to an external distributed control system when required.

CMR IV RCU: Ultimate Performance

Dynisco’s high performance RCU incorporates the rheological properties of a Laboratory Capillary Rheometer with MFI readings delivered by a melt flow indexer. The CMR IV RCUhas been updated with a Siemens S7-1500 PLC with a Siemens 7” (178 mm), Comfort Panel Touch Screen HMI.

Increased processing power and hi-end graphics are provided by this combination in order to enable the RCU to provide +/- 0.5% full scale accuracy. This allows the RCU to improve align measurements with those obtained from laboratory instruments. Additionally, it is certified for unsafe environments as needed. The RCU will allow for up to 8 digital outputs and 7 analog outputs.

CMR IV e-RCU: Performance Simplified

A simplified PLC with the digital and analog I/O that will be required by most plants is provided by the CMR IV e-RCU in order to obtain a cost effective approach to measure online rheology. The CMR IV e-RCU comprises of a Siemens S7-1200 PLC with a Siemens 7” (178 mm) Comfort Panel Touch Screen HMI.

This combination provides the system with hi-end graphics and processing power in order to enable the e-RCU to provide +/- 2% full scale accuracy. The e-RCU provides the processor with the ability to measure relative viscosity, melt flow ratio, melt viscosity and intrinsic viscosity in typical end-user environments.
