Measuring Mass Flow Rate, Volume and Temperature with the FMC 5000 Coriolis Mass Flow Meter

  • Rugged meters without any moving parts results in minimal maintenance
  • Accuracy over a wide flow range from a single meter optimizes the efficiency of a plant
  • Density, volume, mass flow rate and temperature measurements
  • Straight pipe runs or flow conditioning are not required, resulting in less expensive and simplified installation

Description

The FMC-5000 Coriolis Mass Flow Meter from OMEGA is designed based on the Coriolis Force Principle. This mass flow meter is increasingly used for custody transfer and flow measurements in a number of industries that include food and dairy, pharmaceutical, pulp and paper, chemical, petrochemical and petroleum to mention a few.

This advanced flow and density measurement instrument is extensively used for measuring gases, liquids and slurries, and earns a high reputation from customers all over the world. Typically, Coriolis meters are used in applications such as process gas measurements, custody transfer, dosing, filling, blending, batch control, and many more.

When placed under the alternating current effect, the electromagnetic coils mounted on the measuring tube will make two parallel measuring tubes vibrating at a specific fixed frequency. Coriolis force is generated whenever mass (either gas or liquid) flows through the measuring tubes, thus causing a “deflection” or “bending” in the top of the tubes. This deflection is sensed as a phase shift present between two electronic pick-ups mounted on the tubes. The phase shift degree is considered to be directly proportional to the mass flow existing within the tubes. It is possible to calculate the mass flow rate by detecting the phase shift of the tubes. This mass flow meter also helps measuring the temperature, which is then used for compensation.
