This video shows Bernard Siow, Head of MRI at Francis Crick Institute in London, explaining about the benefits of MRI.

The normal MRI scans get anatomical information with resolution of about a millimeter, while a preclinical scanner has a resolution of about hundred microns. Technical diffusion MRI is sensitive to microstructure of tissue. The ICON 9.40 is a useful machine used for most of research studies. Preclinical MRIs show potential for growth as they are used for various research purposes.
