PANalytical SST-mAX50 X-Ray Tube Technology

Maarten van Andel from PANalytical shows us the SST-mAX50, the world's most advanced x-ray tubes which are used in instruments like the AXIOS XRF. They incorporate 2 key features:

  • Zeta technology - this eliminated drift from the x-ray tube, allowing them to operate as new for their entire life and eliminating the need for recalibration, as well as ensuring they maintain their ability to detect light elements accurately.
  • Chi-Blue coating - this coating of the ultrathin beryllium window provides a corrosion resistant barrier protecting the window and from harsh chemicals that may be present

These unique x-ray tubes are produced in-house by PANalytical, who are also building a new tube factory at their plant in the Netherlands.
