Chemical imaging experts from Malvern
Instruments will contribute two papers to the session on ‘Chemical
Imaging: Data analysis and emerging techniques’ at the IFPAC Annual Meeting
being held from 25-28 January 2009 in Baltimore MD, USA.
Dr Janie Dubois, Malvern’s Product Manager Americas for Analytical Imaging,
will discuss ‘Advanced troubleshooting of dissolution failure with chemical
imaging’’, and Dr E. Neil Lewis, Technical Director for Malvern
will make a presentation on ‘Morphologically directed Raman microscopy:
a novel approach for the characterization of pharmaceutical products’.
Malvern’s SyNIRgi near infrared chemical imaging (NIR-CI) system is proving
extremely valuable for advanced troubleshooting of dissolution failure in both
granules and tablets. It provides accurate and reliable measurement of the spatial
distribution of pharmaceutical ingredients. Importantly, because chemical composition
and structural data are obtained non-destructively, subsequent dissolution testing
can be performed on the same sample. This eliminates the need for destructive
testing of different tablets from the same batch and removes any reliance on
the statistical correlation of results.
