1500 New Phase Diagrams Available from ASM International

Published on April 24, 2009 at 9:31 PM

The leading resource for reliable alloy phase diagrams now offers access to more than 30,000 authoritative diagrams, available both as a complete collection and as individual diagrams.

The latest update to the ASM Alloy Phase Diagram Center at www.asminternational.org/materialsinfo adds 1,500 new phase diagrams, including 20 aluminum-titanium binaries and 350 aluminum ternaries. New ternary phase diagrams for the "Industrial and Heat Resistant" category (including iron, nickel, cobalt, chromium, niobium and manganese) and the "Solder, Brazes and Copper Alloys" category (including lead, bismuth, silver, gold, antimony, indium, gallium, cadmium, zinc, copper and tin) have also been added.

Alloy phase diagrams serve as technical roadmaps that tell an engineer how a particular metal or combination of metals will behave under specific conditions such as temperature, pressure and composition. "Having access to reliable and peer-reviewed phase diagrams is critical to the selection and application of metals and alloys," said Mary Anne Fleming, senior product developer for Technical Journals and APD Publications. "They are the cornerstone of materials technology."

The ASM Alloy Phase Diagrams Center allows subscribers to explore, search and view binary and ternary phase diagrams and associated phase data from their Web browsers. For information about access rights, contact Denise Smith at denise.smith@asminternational.org or 440.338.5409. To purchase and download individual diagrams, or to learn more about other diagram collections, visit www.asminternational.org and click on Materials Information.

ASM International is Everything Material, the Ohio-based society serving the materials science and engineering community. With 36,000 members worldwide. ASM provides authoritative information and knowledge on materials and processes from the structural to the nanoscale. In addition to the ASM Phase Diagram Center, the society also offers a Materials Information Online suite comprised of:

  • ASM Handbooks Online, featuring the complete content of more than 20 ASM Handbook volumes plus two ASM Desk Editions.
  • ASM Alloy Center Online, featuring ASM property data, performance charts, and processing guidelines for specific metals and alloys.
  • ASM Micrograph Center Online, with 2,500 micrographs for industrially important alloys.
  • ASM Failure Analysis Center Online, with more than 1,000 case histories and authoritative handbook information on failure mechanisms and analysis methods.
