Malvern Sponsor Materials Characterization Short Course at ECIS 2009

Published on July 7, 2009 at 10:19 PM

Materials characterization company Malvern Instruments is the sole sponsor of the pre-conference short course being held on 5-6 September 2009, ahead of the 23rd annual conference of the European Colloid and Interface Society (ECIS 2009, 6 - 11th September, Antalya, Turkey). The course will give up to 30 participants hands-on application experience in rheology, zeta potential and dynamic light scattering measurements relating to surfactant and polymer self-assembly.

Entitled 'Self-assembly of Surfactants and Polymers: Fundamentals and Application', the one and a half day course will include 10-12 hours of lectures given by surface chemist and colloid expert, Professor Bjorn Lindman, from the University of Lund, Sweden. To ensure the course includes reliable and engaging application experience for participants, Malvern is supplying Kinexus rotational rheometer platforms and Zetasizer Nano systems for hands-on sessions. Online course registration can be found at: http://www.ecis2009.org/index.php?id=pre-conferenceworkshop.

There is a growing demand in both medical and materials science for increasingly accurate, yet straightforward, methods to study the behaviour of colloids and measure multiple particle interactions. Malvern's new Kinexus rheometer and unique rSpace software user interface opens up robust and reliable methodology and procedures for characterising the rheological properties of colloids while sample properties available for measurement with the Zetasizer Nano system include particle size, molecular weight, and zeta potential. www.malvern.com
