Shimadzu HPLC Systems Now Controlled and Monitored via iPad

Shimadzu Scientific Instruments is improving the efficiency of network operations for the Nexera UHPLC and Prominence HPLC systems by enabling system control and monitoring via an iPad. When connected wirelessly to the HPLC's workstation, the iPad can simultaneously monitor and control the operating and usage conditions of multiple HPLC systems within a single network.

With the iPad control, remote batch monitoring of analysis and operating status, including error reporting, is now possible. If an error occurs, users can immediately reference equipment instruction manuals stored in the iPad and troubleshoot remotely. The result is more reliable execution of analysis tasks and overall improvements in task efficiency.

The iPad control also can be used to obtain consumables usage status and other data necessary for equipment maintenance. This improves the efficiency of equipment control versus system-by-system control. Because consumable information is incorporated into the Nexera and Prominence HPLC systems, this information can be easily obtained in mixed-vendor systems, too.

In addition to monitoring, equipment control is also possible with the iPad. Using iPad control, users can schedule cleaning of equipment and columns prior to analysis. By enabling this control from the iPad, sample pretreatment, processing of analysis data and other tasks can now be performed while working at a location separate from the HPLC system. In this way, users achieve overall improvements in laboratory workflow.
