Based on the previous success of the European
Powder Metallurgy Associations (EPMA) EU funded PM Training Courses, the
EPMA has decided to run a 2009 EPMA Powder Metallurgy Summer School for the
benefit of up-and-coming powder metallurgists.
The 2009 EPMA PM Summer School will take place in Košice, Slovakia’s
second largest city and the centre of eastern Slovakia, from Monday, 22nd June
to Friday, 26th June 2009. Lying in the valley of the river Hornád in
the Košice Basin, encircled by the spurs of the Cierna Hora Mountains to
the north and the Volovské vrchy hills to the west, Košice will
play host to over 25 presentations on Powder Metallurgy and associated processes
and practices and a half day of laboratory work at the Institute of Materials
Research, Slovak Academy of Sciences. The compact 5-day PM Summer School programme
will provide the students with relevant and up-to-date PM knowledge and skills.
“The EPMA Summer School is particularly designed for young graduate designers,
engineers and scientists drawn from a wide range of disciplines such as materials
science, design, engineering, manufacturing and metallurgy” said Joan
Hallward, Project Coordinator. She went on to add “The course will offer
the students an advanced teaching of Powder Metallurgy’s advantages and
limitations by some of the leading academic and industrial figures in Europe.”
The course is open to graduates under the age of 35 who are citizens of the
EU or an EU associated state. The participation fee for the 5-day training course
is €295 per person. For this non-refundable fee participants will receive
all relevant course documents plus refreshments, meals and accommodation.
The last series of annual summer schools were always over-subscribed and the
EPMA is hoping for another fully attended training course. The deadline for
potential applicants is Monday 6th April 2009.
