Applied Materials Receives Supplier Excellence Award from Texas Instruments

Applied Materials, Inc. announced today that it has received the prestigious 2008 Supplier Excellence Award from Texas Instruments (TI) for the outstanding contributions of Applied's service group. The award, Applied's fifth for service and ninth for the overall company since 1994, recognizes Applied's high standards and commitment to excellence in supporting TI's chipmaking business in 2008.

Key to Applied's achievement was the successful execution of a large equipment relocation project that supports TI's efforts to optimize capital assets and boost manufacturing capacity for its customers. Using its global resources and manufacturing operations expertise, Applied was uniquely qualified to perform this intricate transition that involved relocation and startup of a significant number of Applied process systems to multiple TI facilities around the globe.

"Applied has set themselves apart from numerous other suppliers to attain this award, our highest level of supplier recognition," said Rob Simpson, vice president of Worldwide Procurement and Logistics at Texas Instruments. "Applied is a world-class supplier that really understands our needs, and the company has played an integral role in TI's efforts to help customers solve problems through electronics that make the world smarter, healthier and greener."

"It's a special honor to have our long and productive relationship with TI recognized by this fifth award for our service solutions," said Manfred Kerschbaum, senior vice president and general manager of Applied Global Services. "In these uncertain times, our broad, holistic approach - integrating the widest and most technically-advanced range of service products - is exactly what our customers need to meet complex business challenges and maximize operational efficiency."

Through its Supplier Excellence Award, TI recognizes an elite group of companies who contribute significantly to TI's business success through outstanding performance and continuous improvement. Using a rigorous evaluation process, TI selects suppliers that excel in the areas of cost, environmental responsibility, technology, responsiveness, assurance of supply, and quality.
