Holly Asphalt's purchase of five Dynamic Shear Rheometers over a period of
eight years is testament to Malvern's ability to provide exemplary support to asphalt
producers, and to sustain and nourish long-term commercial relationships. Holly
Asphalt operates five terminals in the southwestern US and is part of the Holly
Corporation (www.hollycorp.com), an independent petroleum refiner and
marketer. Like all asphalt producers, Holly uses rheometry for final QC.
Rheological properties have a critical impact on asphalt pavement performance
and testing to well-defined industry standards is essential before shipping.

"For me what really differentiates Malvern is exceptional customer support,"
comments Bob McGennis, Technical Manager, Holly Corporation. "The company has a
non-bureaucratic, 'can-do' attitude and will go that extra mile to provide us
with everything we need. Bohlin was the first company to develop a rheometer
specifically designed to meet the needs of asphalt producers. Malvern has
capitalised and built on this legacy. They really understand the asphalt
industry and our reliance on sound and accurate rheological data."
Asphalt testing is a demanding rheological application, primarily because of
the temperature sensitivity of measurements. The Superpave specifications set
out criteria for QA/QC acceptance for different grades, and test methods are
very closely defined. Malvern offers a suite of rheometers specified to meet the
demands of the industry, with integral, user-friendly software that automates
and streamlines asphalt measurement. These solutions are supported by
information rich, industry-specific web content, an ambitious and informative
on-line education programme and a global network of application specialists.
