Woodhead Publishing Launches Online Platform Catering for Materials and Engineering

Woodhead Publishing, a leading scientific and technology publishing company based in Cambridge UK, is pleased to announce the launch of its online platform Woodhead Publishing Online at the Frankfurt Book Fair. MetaPress, the world's largest primary hosting service for scientific, technical and medical content is the host provider for the site.

Woodhead Publishing Online, is a new resource of scientific, technical and information trends, comprising over 800 e-books, containing 12,000 chapters in Materials and Engineering, Food Science Technology and Nutrition, Textile Technology, Energy and Environmental Technology, and Finance, Commodities and Business Studies and Mathematics. Designed and created after thorough research amongst librarians and end users, the site offers extensive features and functionality and is the only platform to offer the complete Woodhead Publishing platform in one place.

Commenting on the launch from the company's stand at Frankfurt, Martin Woodhead, Managing Director of Woodhead Publishing, said "We are delighted to be launching this extensive platform at the Frankfurt Book Fair, where we look forward to meeting many agents, distributors, representatives and customers. Director of Sales and Marketing for MetaPress, Michael Margotta, said "Woodhead Publishing performed extensive user surveys to determine features and sales models that would fulfil the end users' requirements. The site offers advanced features and functionality, such as search and discovery tools, personalisation features including fully customisable RSS feeds and extensive bibliographic references, linked through CrossRef. A range of innovative purchasing options are also available including a Pick and Mix option."

Initially launched with Food Science Technology and Nutrition, Textile Technology, and Materials and Engineering collections, these will be followed in early 2011 with Energy and Environmental Technology, Finance, Commodities, Business Studies and Mathematics. The next phase will be a separate site for the entire catalogue of Chandos Publishing, the leading publisher of books on library and information management which Woodhead acquired in 2009. The Chandos site will be the first time that Chandos titles have been available as e-books.
