Honeywell announced that it has increased the HFO-1234ze production capacity at its manufacturing facility in Buffalo, New York.
The production expansion will help meet the rising demand for HFO-1234ze, a low- global-warming blowing agent used in foam and aerosol industries. The expansion work includes equipment upgrades and total productivity enhancements. Honeywell's manufacturing plant is located at its Buffalo Research Lab.
The company has experienced a major demand for HFO-1234ze product from the foam and aerosol sectors in the past several quarters. It has signed several contracts with a number of clients.
The HFO-1234ze is a non-ozone depleting and non-flammable material and has a global-warming-potential of 6. It can be used as an alternative to HFC-134a and HFC-152a for application in thermal insulating foams and aerosols and can replace HFC-134a for chiller uses. The material has received approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for aerosol and foam applications.
The HFO-1234ze is now used in Europe, Japan and the U.S. with majority of demand from the European market. The company has also developed the HFO-1234y that is used to substitute HFC-134a, a hydrofluorocarbon currently utilized in automobile air conditioners.
