Mike Jeffries, strategic technology manager for aliphatic polyaspartics and
isocyanates at Bayer MaterialScience has offered a presentation on “Polyaspartic
Coatings: Next-Generation of Durable Shop- and Site-Applied Finishes” at the
North American Industrial Coatings exhibition, held at the Duke Energy
Convention Center in Cincinnati, Ohio from October 4 to 6. He has highlighted
the advantages of polyaspartic coating technology for steel construction.
Existing coatings for steel construction need extended drying and handling
times, which can lead to delay in construction or damage during erection, set up
and shipment. Hence, architects, engineers and building professionals look for
coating technologies with advanced features that reduce damage during
construction and cut down handling times.
At the North American Event, Mike Jeffries has described the details of the
polyaspartic coating chemistry and its various characteristics, including high
durability, rapid cure at low and ambient temperatures, enhanced shop and field
throughput by minimizing handling time. In addition, he underscored the results
of the separate ambient and cold temperature trials that compare handling times
of the next-generation polyaspartic coatings with standard coating technologies.
Preliminary ambient test proves that polyaspartic coatings provide better
resistance to dust or abrasive as well as compression damage and the cold
temperature test indicated that polyaspartic coatings offer excellent resistance
to dust or abrasive pickup, contact point damage and compression damage than the
current coating technologies.
