Momentive Performance Materials has unveiled the new brand name, SilFORT, for its wide range of hardcoat products. The SilFORT brand includes over 20 advanced, patent-protected hardcoats, which enable the use of polymeric substrates in consumer and industrial applications.
SilFORT hardcoat products provide manufacturers the capability to replace metal and glass with polymeric materials in applications, where extreme wear and tear exists such as mobile devices. In addition, the advanced hardcoats are suitable for applications such as architecture and automotive, where there is a continuous exposure to the elements.
Sandip Tyagi, Global Marketing Director of Momentive Performance Materials’ Hardcoats division, stated that SilFORT will expand the application of the polymeric materials, which are lightweight, stronger, flexible in design and easy-to-process. The use of polymeric materials in challenging exterior applications is restricted unless the hardcoat products are applied with the purpose of shielding against UV exposure and abrasion. The hardcoats can help the polymeric substrates to retain their shine, color, physical and light transmission properties, as well as to improve their weatherability and abrasion, chemical and solvent resistance capability.
Momentive jointly works with a few established companies in the architectural, consumer electronics and transportation sector to solve various design and engineering problems and improve product characteristics such as energy efficiency, safety and weight reduction.
