Coatings and specialty products company, PPG Industries has published a flyer or a document highlighting the performance data for its new SUNGATE 600 glass and details about its latest Insulating Glass Technology (IGU) for achieving R-5 insulating performance with dual-pane window construction.
SUNGATE 600 is particularly useful in areas that are cold since they have low emission and retain solar heat. The glass has winter night-time U-value of 0.29 along with 72% visible light transmittance and 0.70 solar heat gain coefficient. The glass comes in the form of the standard ¾ inch residential IGU. The other technology illustrated in the document is the dual pane IGU, which includes one pane of SOLARBAN 60 glass measuring 3 mm on the second surface and another pane of SUNGATE 600 glass measuring 3mm on the fourth surface. The two panes are separated by an argon filled space measuring half inch. This dual pane configuration helps in achieving a U-value of 0.22 or more. This directly means that manufacturers of windows can meet the environmental specifications set down by federal governments without incurring material costs associated with triple-glazed windows. PPG supplies its products mainly to the consumer products industry, industrial transportation, and construction and aftermarket industries.
