Emeco’s Chair Made from Recycled PET Wins ‘Best in Show’ Award at NPE2012

At NPE2012 international plastics exhibition, a panel of judges has announced the winners of the second International Plastics Design Competition (IPDC) hosted by SPI, the plastics industry trade association.

111 Navy Chair

The winners of the competition are as follows:

  • The ‘Best in Show’ award was presented to the 111 Navy Chair, a chair injection molded from BASF’s recycled PET materials. The chair has been designed by Emeco and it also won the ‘Sustainable Consumer Product’ award and the ‘Buildings & Furnishings’ award.
  • A spin device used to remove zest from citrus fruits, the Zip Zester, has received the ‘Peoples’ Choice’ award. Grass Roots Industries has designed the product for Zip Zester, owner of the brand, and it has been molded by Cashmere Molding using EMS Grivory’s materials and Battenfeld’s equipment.
  • Tigris, an all-plastics airline catering trolley, has been honoured in the automotive and transportation category. The product is designed by ProMolding and molded by Bemis Manufacturing. Tigris is designed using resin from Solvay Advanced Polymers, machinery from Milacron and tooling from VinylTech International.
  • The ‘Consumer Products’ award has been presented to the Purist Hydroflo water bottle, which is made by Harbor Fluid Products.
  • Mobilegs crutches, which have been designed for improved comfort, usability, and style for disabled people and has won an award in the medical and scientific category. Mobilegs uses resin supplied by BASF.
  • A 3D in-mold labeled packaging, 3D IML with MuCell, has been honoured at the NPE2012 event in the emerging technology category. PACCOR Packaging Deutschland is the owner, designer and molder of the product.

Other products that have been honoured at the show include 1-Seal container and lid designed by Arta Plast; an injection molded part for a water outlet structure designed by MPC; the Genesys Fluid Pump produced by Millennium Mold Design and Poly-Lactic Foam Article designed by Sekisui Plastics.
