Cabot has announced that it has developed CAB-O-SIL ULTRABOND 5760 fumed silica, a new performance additive.

The transportation industry will use this silica material in order to attain its objective to reduce weight and enhance the fuel efficiency. Adhesives systems are benefited by this hydrophobic silica, as this material decreases the application viscosity with no compromise in sag resistance.

The company has announced the global availability of CAB-O-SIL ULTRABOND 5760, which is surface-treated fumed silica that increases the performance of adhesive, especially in epoxy formulations. The fumed silica can be utilized in adhesives for use in many industries such as aerospace, automotive, construction, flooring, electronics and others. It is increasingly used in structural adhesives, which were utilized in vehicle construction. The application of structural adhesives has been increased steadily for building automobiles.

Both the users and adhesive manufacturer are benefited from CAB-O-SIL ULTRABOND 5760 fumed silica material. During the process of adhesive manufacturing, energy and time can be saved when the company’s new silica material is used in the adhesive formulations. Silica loading during the adhesive production can be decreased by 10 to 15%, as this fumed silica offers high sag resistance, and low viscosity adhesive is manufactured. Adhesive makers can save their energy, money and time during the production methods, with low viscosity and lower loading.

Using Cabot’s new fumed silica in the dynamic viscosity profile of adhesives enables a quicker material application. Stable bond lines are created in adhesives, when this new silica is used. CAB-O-SIL ULTRABOND 5760 fumed silica material facilitates quicker viscosity recovery rate for more than 50%, when compared to other grades of silica.
