Cabot Unveils New Transfinity Elastomer Composite Products

Published on July 3, 2012 at 10:09 AM

By Nick Gilbert

Cabot has introduced new Transfinity elastomer composite products that are designed specifically for anti-vibration applications.

These products offer flexibility to formulators of elastomer compounds to attain the maximum level of dynamic durability and to control the damping level. This flexibility in formulation of materials provides options to develop reliable and smaller lightweight components, which can be utilized in marine, aerospace, automotive, rail and industrial vibration control systems.

The company manufactures Transfinity products using elastomer latex and reinforcing particles like carbon black. A patented method is used to manufacture these products and this method produces stronger composites, when compared to traditional elastomer materials. These products can possibly minimize abrasive wear by 50% and increase the fatigue life of anti-vibration parts two-fold.

The new Transfinity elastomer composite products from Cabot include:

  • Transfinity DF products with design flexibility
  • Transfinity XD product with extreme durability

The Transfinity XD product is designed in such a way that it offers high durability. This material is used by customers to increase the life span of suspension parts utilized in railcars or heavy vehicles, thus increasing productivity and minimizing downtime.

The Transfinity DF products provide more strength to soft elastomer compounds and allow formulators to raise the components’ vibration isolation performance.
The company is showcasing its products at the German Rubber Conference 2012, which is being held from 2 to 5 July, 2012 in Germany.
