Don "The Snake" Prudhomme Will Make an Appearance in Booth #C2328; Company Demonstrates Thermo Scientific Niton XL2 GOLDD and Niton XL3t GOLDD+ Alloy Analyzers.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced that Don "The Snake" Prudhomme, a legend in the world of drag racing and member of both the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, will greet attendees at Fabtech 2012 held on November 12-14, 2012, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nev., booth #C2328. Mr. Prudhomme is an associate of Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR), which has used Thermo Fisher's x-ray fluorescence technology to verify alloy composition in its award-winning race cars.

The company will be demonstrating the latest members of its family of Thermo Scientific handheld XRF analyzers, the Thermo Scientific Niton XL2 GOLDD Series and the enhanced Thermo Scientific Niton XL3t GOLDD+ Series at the show. Thermo Scientific portable XRF analyzers provide nondestructive elemental analysis for accurate grade identification and alloy chemistry in seconds.

"With the Niton XL2 GOLDD and enhanced Niton XL3t GOLDD+, we now offer the aerospace, metal fabrication, foundry and related industries a range of products that are engineered from the ground up to help eliminate any guesswork in verifying metal alloys for manufacturing quality assurance," said David Mercuro, vertical director of positive material identification (PMI) and fabrication for Thermo Scientific Portable Analytical Instruments.

Mercuro continued, "We know that the potential for material mix-ups is very real and that the need for traceability is a priority. Our nondestructive analyzers can provide users with peace of mind.. These instruments take control of material verification, recovery of lost traceability, isolation of finished welds to validate filler material and dilution rates and confirmation of finished products - all without damaging samples in any way. This means users can save both time and additional testing expense.

GOLDD Technology

Whether users choose the performance-leading Niton XL2 GOLDD or the Niton XL3t GOLDD+, the ultimate choice in features plus performance, they will benefit from fast, accurate elemental analysis and positive material identification to ensure manufacturing quality assurance and quality control.

  • Niton XL2 GOLDD analyzers have a 45kV, 100 ìA x-ray tube and are lightweight yet ruggedly built to withstand severe environments. Ergonomically designed and featuring daylight readable icons, the Niton XL2 GOLDD incorporates customizable menus for ease of use, multi-language options and a standard analytical range of more than 30 elements from magnesium to uranium. It is the ideal instrument to get rapid results for confident decision-making.
  • Niton XL3t GOLDD+ analyzers with their 50kV, 200 ìA x-ray tubes and tilting, color, touch-screen display deliver lab-quality analysis on almost any alloy grade and provide the highest performance and sensitivity of any of our handheld offerings for the most demanding applications. For ultra-low Mg analysis, there is a helium purge option. Further, the Niton XL3t GOLDD+ allows users to identify free-machining stainless steels based on sulfur content. Additionally, the integrated Thermo Scientific CCD camera comes standard for accurate sample positioning and image capture, while the optional Thermo Scientific small-spot feature isolates welds.

A Family of Handheld Thermo Scientific Portable XRF Analyzers

Handheld, award-winning Niton XL2 Series and Niton XL3t Series XRF analyzers are engineered for taking measurements anywhere, anytime, with accurate results available in seconds, allowing lower cost per analysis. These easy-to-use, nondestructive instruments provide integrated storage of all tamperproof test results. Multiple communication options are incorporated, including Bluetooth* wireless and USB communications.

Both Series analyzers also come standard with Thermo Scientific Niton Data Transfer (NDT) software, a suite of data management utilities that allows users to set operator permissions, print certificates of analysis to document results, export data into standard formats (.csv or MS Excel*) or operate the analyzer remotely from a PC. The NDT file format preserves and protects the original data from each sample analysis, designed to ensure that data is not unintentionally or intentionally compromised.

Thermo Fisher customers are served through corporate resources and a dedicated network of more than 70 distributors and 30 factory-trained service centers around the world. Thermo Scientific portable XRF analyzers are available in a range of configurations and with an assortment of optional features and accessories to suit a wide variety of analytical needs.
