Westpak Announces Addition of Hardness Testing Capability

Westpak, Inc., a local product and package testing laboratory, has added Hardness Testing to its expanding set of Material Analysis test capabilities. Using state-of-the-art equipment, Westpak evaluates the hardness of metal and plastic samples using established industry protocols ASTM E18, ASTM D785, and ISO 6508.

Westpak's hardness tester determines the Rockwell hardness of test samples by utilizing indenters and force loads of 60 Kg, 100 Kg, or 150 Kg. Indentions in test samples are compared against indentions created in standard samples of known hardness. Materials of ASTM hardness scales A through V can be evaluated.

Material Analysis Testing, a Westpak proficiency, is utilized by clients from technology, industry, aerospace, and automotive to assess material properties of metals, alloys, and plastics. Hardness Testing, which is based on comparative knowledge, is often performed as the first step in evaluating materials. Related material tests such as durability, toughness, strength, or flexibility, plus resistance to cutting, abrasion, and scratching are often conducted as some of the next steps in the evaluation process.

"We expand our material analysis capabilities along with our clients' needs," says Edmund Tang, Laboratory Manager, "and we're always finding new applications and customers for our capabilities. Our test engineers really enjoy working with their clients and contributing to new and sustaining products."
