DesignCon 2014: Microsemi IGLOO2 FPGA Wins DesignVision Award

Microsemi Corporation, a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today announced its IGLOO®2 FPGA family has won the DesignVision Award in the Semiconductor Components category at the 2014 DesignCon conference.

"Microsemi's IGLOO2 FPGA stands out for its broad feature set as well as its sensitivity to total system cost. As a result, it satisfies the needs of designers working on products for many different applications," Kate Hadden, senior marketing manager at UBM Tech. "For these reasons, it was selected as the 2014 DesignVision Award winner in the Semiconductor Components and ICs category."

Started in 2005, the DesignVision Award recognizes technologies, applications, products and services judged to be the most unique and beneficial to the industry. DesignVision Award candidates are judged by UBM Tech's editorial staff based on how well the product met the market's vision and offered unique insight into customer needs, the originality of the solution and if it offered a new approach to meeting market needs, and the quality of the implementation and how well it fits the market requirements.

Delivering a comprehensive array of mainstream features, the Microsemi IGLOO2 FPGA product line gives system architects, FPGA designers and system designers the lowest total-cost of-ownership relative to other FPGAs with similar capabilities, enabling OEMs to offer highly differentiated end products in their target markets. A broad range of mainstream applications realize the benefits of Microsemi's FPGAs that offer the lowest cost of ownership, lowest power consumption, best-in-class security technology and highest reliability in their product class.

"Microsemi is committed to providing innovative semiconductor solutions that enable our customers to easily and cost-effectively improve and differentiate their end products," said Shakeel Peera, director of marketing at Microsemi. "We continually strive to push the envelope in terms of unmatched hardware integration combined with total software solutions and the added advantage of complete design and development tools to deliver advanced products that meet or exceed OEM requirements."

"Customers new to Microsemi FPGAs are already using IGLOO2 devices in a broad range of applications including industrial controllers, Ethernet switches, SFPs, FADEC engine controllers and missile control systems, " continued Peera. "In 2013, Microsemi's SmartFusion2 SoC FPGAs, with an embedded 166 MHz ARM® Cortex™-M3 microprocessor, took home the DesignVision award in the Semiconductor Components and ICs category. These important industry recognitions on our FPGA product line are a true testament to the applicability of our FPGA portfolio and advantages we bring to our customers."

About IGLOO2 FPGAs
Microsemi's IGLOO2 FPGAs continue the company's focus on addressing the needs of today's cost-optimized FPGA markets by providing a LUT based fabric, 5G transceivers, high speed GPIO, block RAM, a high-performance memory subsystem, and DSP blocks in a differentiated, cost and power optimized architecture. This next generation IGLOO2 architecture offers up to five times more logic density and three times more fabric performance than its predecessors and combines a non-volatile flash based fabric with the highest number of general purpose I/Os, 5G SERDES interfaces and PCI Express end points when compared to other products in its class. IGLOO2 FPGAs offer best-in-class feature integration coupled with the lowest power, highest reliability and most advanced security in the industry.
