Axalta, Tyler Arboretum Partner to Unveil Butterfly House Enhancements

Axalta Coating Systems, a leading global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, is supporting Tyler Arboretum’s Butterfly House to help sustain the live specimen exhibit so visitors may enjoy and learn about the vibrantly colored caterpillars and butterflies.

Axalta has a long, rich history and recently launched its first sustainability report under the company’s new name. This further emphasizes the importance of sustainability to the organization, as many of Axalta’s products and processes are designed to reduce the impact of coatings on the environment.

Axalta and Tyler will join in a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially unveil the Butterfly House enhancements and kick off its new season on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Tyler Arboretum at 515 Painter Rd. in Media, PA. “We are excited to play a part in the efforts to preserve the life cycle of the butterfly,” says Nigel Budden Axalta Vice President and Head of its North American business. “The natural beauty and color that emanates from them is breathtaking. Our products not only add beauty and color, but they also provide protection for a multitude of materials, helping them to last long…and be sustainable. So it makes sense for us to want to positively influence the survival of butterfly species. We both produce brilliant color.”

Axalta’s sponsorship will go towards producing educational signage and literature. It will also go towards helping to provide plants so that they can be used as nourishment for the caterpillars and butterflies. In addition, it will help to support general maintenance and the purchase of new benches.

“We are delighted to have Axalta as a partner for this seasonal exhibit,” says Tyler Arboretum Executive Director Rick Colbert. “Butterflies and other pollinators are essential for the health and sustainability of our ecosystems. We are happy and excited to have support from a company like Axalta so we can continue our educational efforts with the public.”

The Butterfly House is open to the public now through August and is included with the price of regular admission.

Tyler Arboretum, one of the oldest and largest arboreta in the northeastern United States, is an important community resource and cultural destination. Tyler provides a natural sanctuary for visitors interested in horticulture, history and the natural world.
