SciAps Launches Geochemistry App for LIBS Analyzers in Mining & Exploration Industries

SciAps, a Woburn, MA based portable analytical instrumentation company, is pleased to announce the addition of a Geochemistry App for its family of handheld LIBS analyzers, the Z-500 and Z-100.

The Z with the Geochem App will be demonstrated at the SEG Conference, Keystone, CO starting September 27th.

The Z is the world’s first handheld LIBS device capable of analyzing geochemical samples, and the only handheld analyzer for critical elements such as sodium, lithium, beryllium, boron and carbon.

It utilizes the technique of laser induced breakdown spectroscopy, and provides elemental concentrations of soils, sediments and other geological-type samples. According to Andrew Somers, the Managing Director of SciAps Australia:

“This new technology represents a paradigm shift in what is capable with a hand held elemental analyser. The ability to test very light elements such as Na, Be, B and Li and low levels of Mg, Al and Si opens up many opportunities for geoscientists to generate powerful geochemical information in the field.

"This device can provide benefits through the entire process of mining from discovery, to development, to environmental remediation. I am really excited to be involved in the next wave of analytical devices to the mining industry and broader geological community and look forward to helping our clients achieve what was previously thought impossible with a field portable elemental analyser.”

The Z also uses an eye safe laser, making it safe and easy to use by any skill level of operator. The Z has achieved a Class 1M rating. Operators can travel freely without regulatory restrictions or certifications.

The Z’s software operates on Google’s Android operating system, giving it the same intuitive look and feel of a Smartphone. It has integrated wireless, Bluetooth and GPS. Data can be instantly shared with any wireless device including a cell phone hot spot, and then emailed anywhere in the world.
