Zwick Webinar Features the Latest Trends in Automotive Lightweighting and Their Impact on Materials Testing

An April 16 webinar on automotive materials lightweighting sponsored by Zwick USA, hosted by ASM International and moderated by the editor of Advanced Materials & Processes, presented information on the latest approaches taken by passenger vehicle manufacturers and their respective suppliers to reduce weight and improve fuel efficiency.

The Impact of Automotive Lightweighting on Materials – Solutions for Today’s Challenges, conducted by David Phillips, Corporate and Industry Marketing Director for Zwick, highlighted important developments regarding lightweighting and provided an overview of how materials testing directly contributes to these initiatives.

“As lightweighting continues to stimulate demand for new materials with higher performance requirements, the role of materials testing and characterization will continue to grow in importance,“ Phillips said.

The webinar was quite successful because lightweighting is such a hot topic in the automotive and industry, said Frances Richards, Editor-in-Chief of Advanced Materials & Processes. Richards said her readers continue to express interest in advanced high strength steels, aluminum, magnesium and composites. They are also seeking information on methods of joining these disimilar materials.

Zwick support for automotive lightweighting initiatives may be found at both the OEM and supplier levels. The company’s investment in the development of novel solutions for extensometry, grips, fixtures and robust measurement and control software to address a spectrum of testing needs has proven successful, as customers worldwide seek Zwick to provide the most innovative, reliable products available for quality testing of automotive lightweight materials and components.
