Free Webinar: How can ASTM D4929 Help Reducing Refining Costs?

PANalytical, the world’s leading supplier of analytical instrumentation and software for X-ray and related techniques, announces their free webinar ‘How can ASTM D4929 help reducing refining costs - Organic chlorine determination using X-ray fluorescence’ on 15 September 2016, presented by Taco van der Maten, marketing manager for the petrochemical and polymer industries, PANalytical B.V., The Netherlands.

How can ASTM D4929 help reducing refining costs?

Organic chlorine determination using X-ray fluorescence

Purchasing cheaper opportunity crude oils can increase your refining margin significantly. However, most opportunity crudes contain higher levels of compounds that are detrimental to the refining installation.

Refineries who can best manage the balance between the lower feed costs and the higher maintenance costs will therefore be the most profitable. As much as 36% of maintenance costs of refineries can be linked to corrosion. Organic chlorines, naphthenic acid salts and many sulfur compounds can cause severe corrosion. Therefore control of chlorine and sulfur levels is essential for keeping maintenance costs low.

As energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) is optimal for quick and easy determination of chemical elements like Cl and S, this technique will be included in the update of an existing test method for organic chlorines in crude oils.

In this webinar we explain details regarding the update of ASTM D4929 now including XRF to help you to increase your margin while reducing maintenance costs. As a bonus, the simultaneous analysis of chlorine and sulfur in crude oils will be discussed.

Panelist: Taco van der Maten has a chemical analytical background and worked for almost 20 years in the petrochemical and polymer industry. He joined PANalytical in Almelo (the Netherlands) in 2006 and currently holds the position of marketing manager for the petrochemical and polymer industries. He is also a director of ASTM International and chairman of ASTM committee F40 on regulated substances in materials as well as a member of ASTM committee D20 on plastics and committee D02 on petroleum products, liquid fuels, and lubricants.
