Graphene Workshop in Combination with COMPOSITES EUROPE 2016

Graphene is an innovative carbon-based material made of robust, flexible, electrically conductive sheets, having a thickness of one atom and a lateral size of several microns. It can be produced on large scale from the exfoliation of conventional graphite.

Due to its unique combination of superior properties graphene can improve the functionality of composite materials. To provide an opportunity for networking and collaboration between academia and industry the Graphene Flagship is organising a Graphene Connect workshop in combination with COMPOSITES EUROPE 2016.

The workshop takes place from 30 November to 1 December in Düsseldorf and will focus on graphene based composites like lightweight and multi-functional composites for aerospace and automotive industry, graphene as additive in composites and graphene based coatings.

Our goal is to improve our control of the properties of graphene at the nanoscale to obtain truly disruptive products and fully exploit the unique electrical, mechanical or optical properties of graphene.

As well as talks from leading researchers in both industry and academia, a key part of the workshop will be the opportunity for academic and industrial researchers working with composites to network and share experiences. Representatives from Grupo Antolin, Avanzare, Polygraph and Talga will provide industry perspectives on the potential and advantages of working with graphene.

The workshop is organised by the Graphene Flagship, forming Europe's biggest ever research initiative, performing two core activities: to connect the leading national initiatives in Europe and crosslink European research excellences; and to build a pathway for the newly accumulated strategic knowledge to impact European industries and society.

Graphene Connect is a series of industry workshops, aiming to create new innovation projects between academia and industry. The ultimate outcome of the workshops is to plan for actions realising collaborative innovation projects within and outside of the Flagship consortium.

About COMPOSITES EUROPE:

COMPOSITES EUROPE, the European Trade Fair and Forum for Composites, technology and Applications, will take place from 29 November to 1 December in Düsseldorf. The trade fair presents the entire spectrum of fibre-reinforced plastics, from raw materials and converting steps to lightweight construction innovations in automotive engineering, aerospace, yacht building, wind power generation and in construction. COMPOSITES EUROPE is organised by trade fair organiser Reed Exhibitions in cooperation with the European industry association EuCIA and the trade association Composites Germany, an alliance of the industry associations and the clusters AVK, CCeV, CFK-Valley Stade and VDMA Working Group Hybrid Lightweight Technologies.
