Professor Manuel E. Brito
Manuel E Brito, a native of Republica Bolivariana de Vanezuela, is a Senior Research Scientist at the Energy Technology Research Institute, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). He received his B.S (1982) from Universidad Simon Bolivar, Venezuela and M.S (1986) degree in Materials Engineering from Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan. In 1989, he earned an Engineering Doctoral degree from Nagaoka University of Technology and joined the faculty for a short period of time. After holding a post-doctoral position at National Institute for Inorganic Materials (NIRIN), Tsukuba, Japan, he became research officer of the National Industrial Research Institute in Nagoya, AIST in 1992, where he was associated to the National Project on “Synergy Ceramics” until 2003 when he moved back to Tsukuba within the same AIST organization.
His major research field is evaluation of interfaces and grain boundaries in advanced materials via transmission electron microscopy and related analytical techniques. Currently his research focuses on interfaces in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). He is author or co-author of more than 150 publications and has edited four proceedings books. He has served as Chief Editor and Founding Editor to “Advanced in Technology of Materials and Materials Processing Journal (Australia)” and has served as Associated Editor to “The Journal of the American Ceramic Society (USA)”. Brito is standing trustee of the Materials Research Society-Japan (MRS-J), and regular member of Materials Research Society, the American Ceramic Society, the Electrochemical Society, Microscopy Society of America and the Japanese Electron Microscopy Society.
