Power Protection for Screen Technology

Organic light emitting diodes (OLED), have been receiving attention worldwide as the next generation in screen technology. The nature of this technology is suited to extremely lightweight, thin, and flexible designs, with the potential to be used in a number of different applications.

The Industry and Project

The world’s largest manufacturer produces almost half of OLED displays. It is now protecting its sensitive operations from the critical consequences of power disturbances using ABB’s PCS100 UPS-I (industrial UPS). A crucial requirement for a major contender, in what was forecast to be a $2.5 billion market in 2010 alone.

Five ABB industrial UPS applications were commissioned and installed on-site in March 2010. Three more 1500 kVA and a 300 kVA unit were provided in August. This increasing solution is now offering the industry big key factors and advantage in energy efficiency, great reliability, a compact footprint, and efficient power protection.

The PCS100 UPS-I operates with an online type performance because of its revolutionary fast utility disconnect. It is a short-time rated energy storage system, coupled to an inverter to permit the downstream load to stay operational during short outages and very deep sags of up to 30 seconds.

Processed loads are able to coast through common power problems, increasing yield, improving productivity and lowering product wastage. The modular inverter construction and fail-safe electromechanical bypass gives outstanding reliability and system availability.

Not your usual UPS, the PCS100 UPS-I has been created to be extremely efficient and durable. It is intended for manufacture of organic light emitting diode (OLED) technology and other the more demanding requirements of industrial applications.

A huge advance in the screen industry, which could see electronic film as thin as a sheet of paper serving as your screen for the internet, the news, images or games, and video wallpaper only millimeter thick will convert living room walls into a flat screen.
