Dry heat is usually employed for sterilization instead of moist heat since certain materials are sensitive to moisture. The use of dry heat guarantees that glass and other lab equipment is free of pyrogenic materials, which are too small to be removed by filtration. Dry heat decomposes pyrogens into harmless atoms and molecules.
Validation of a Dry Heat Sterilizer
In the case of a hot air tunnel or a chamber, the sterilization process is crucial and it is essential to perform regular validation. Validation is the documented procedure of acquiring, recording, and interpreting results to guarantee the consistent effectiveness of the dry heat sterilization process. A dry heat sterilizer is validated through accurate measurement of the temperature at crucial points inside the sterilization chamber.
In general, the dry heat process is carried out at a temperature of 250 °C to 400 °C for a differing amount of time. It is necessary for the sterilizer to heat all parts of its load to the predetermined temperature for a particular time period, which is adequately long to accomplish the desired sterility.
In order for all sensors to conform to international standards, they should be calibrated prior to and following the validation test. The produced data must be compiled to assess the potential of the sterilization tunnel to sterilize and depyrogenate vials of varying sizes.
