Measuring Particle Size for Laboratory and Pharmaceuticals

To measure the particle size distribution of fine powder, a laboratory sieving instrument called an Air Jet Sieve can be used. HMK-200 Air Jet Sieve has been commonly used to sieve and classify powder-like materials, particularly in the pharmaceutical industry, among other areas. In the medical field, it is largely used in Chinese and Western labs to meet the requirements of quick and accurate sieving of fine powder.

In 2017, studies showed that in China, the total output value of the fine powder industry market was approximately 60 trillion Yuan. This is a growth of 6.9% year-on-year, and the rate of growth was 0.2 percentage points faster than the same time a year previous. This results in China continuing to be part of the best in the world. The fine powder industry is rapidly developing, resulting in sieving equipment firms having increased business opportunities. However, several challenges have also been faced.

An investigation into the sieving process has proven that fine powders, especially in Chinese and Western medicine that have a particle size of less than 4000 um are often susceptible to static electricity, agglomeration, and can clog up the sieve. The traditional vibrating sieving instrument has shown difficulties in sieving rapidly and accurately, making it unable to meet the sieving requirements of such fine powders.

Innovative development of sieving technology has created the HMK-200 Air Jet Sieve that implements a uniquely designed rotating slotted nozzle and a destatic device. The sieving effect is efficient because the material is uniformly scattered and can eradicate aggregation. Additionally, the sieving status and whole process can be monitored in real-time, the sieving time is optional in the normal time, and the cycle sieving mode can be set for easy operation. Currently, the Air Jet Sieve is the most favored by the powder market.

HMK-200 Air Jet Sieve consists of an operation panel, a motor, a sieve tray, a standard sieve, a nozzle, and a vacuum cleaner. The negative pressure produced by the vacuum cleaner is converted into kinetic energy by the technical nozzle.

First, the powder is driven to rise and collide with the sieve cover, which eliminates the powder of aggregation particles. Next, it is sucked in the direction of the standard test sieve using negative pressure, which results in bigger particles remaining on the sieve after and smaller particles are sucked into the vacuum cleaner. All of this results in optimal sieving of the powder.

Progression of automation and intelligent technology has provided the opportunity to produce HMK-200 intelligent air jet sieve equipment, which is now available on the market. It has a microprocessor built-in, which can calculate the results automatically. Its high degree of automation and data analysis means that many pharmaceutical companies and laboratories have also seen the benefit in purchasing them.

Recently, an instrument manufacturer cooperated with a pharmaceutical company and stated that its sold intelligent air jet sieve is created and developed with successful international sieving technology. The key parameters of the instrument are in line with those of imported equipment. Furthermore, the instrument is priced reasonably, has complete supporting services, and is preferred by many customers.

The issue many customers have come across previously is that the sieve is congested with powder particles. A sieve opening function has been developed by the intelligent equipment, and can efficiently stop incoming particles from obstructing the sieve.

The percentage of the material below the sieve can be calculated automatically after sieving. Moreover, the equipment utilizes an international sample collection device, and the collection rate of the particles below the sieve can reach 99.99%.

The manufacturer has stated that the market outlook of powder sieving equipment is extensive. With fierce market competition, manufacturers can only win the “heart” of customers by continuously solving issues and through equipment and technology updates. This is the direction that Air Jet Sieve equipment manufacturers should endeavor to achieve.
