The Heritage of the CABB Group

In 2003, CABB was founded under the name Clariant Acetyl Building Blocks GmbH & Co. KG, as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Clariant with production sites in Knapsack and Gersthofen, Germany.

At the start of the 20th century, both were former Hoechst AG locations. Their first task was a simple one, to manufacture and supply the best monochloroacetic acid (MCA) and its derivatives in the industry.

Over the last 15 years, CABB has made a number of strategic acquisitions, including SF-Chem, Pratteln, Switzerland, which added chlorination, sulfonation and custom manufacturing capabilities.

They also added Kemfine, Kokkola, Finland, to expand their base for custom manufacturing, and a joint venture with Jinwei Huasheng Chemical Co., Shandong, China, adding regional MCA capacity. The latest was to establish CABB as a transatlantic service provider, with Jayhawk Fine Chemicals, Galena, Kansas, USA.

Employing around 1,100 people, CABB is headquartered in Sulzbach am Taunus, Germany and now has six production sites in Asia, Europe and the USA, with an annual turnover of approximately half a billion euros.

CABB’s commitment has never wavered: to partner with customers and deliver tailored solutions to meet their specific requirements.

They possess state-of-the-art operations, decades of experience and a team dedicated to the development and implementation of complex chemical processes.

Customers in emerging industries are becoming aware of custom manufacturing partnerships, while established customers in traditional markets appreciate the value of outsourced active ingredients and advanced intermediates.

A custom manufacturer should be an extension of a client's own operations and manufacturing culture. CABB understands its obligation to earn and retain this trust each day.
