Bruker’s S2 PICOFOX TXRF Spectrometer for Trace Element Analysis

The S2 PICOFOX is the world’s first portable bench top spectrometer for rapid semi-quantitative and quantitative multi-element micro-analysis of suspensions, liquids, contaminations and solids using the principle of total reflection X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy. The S2 PICOFOX is ideally suited for trace element analysis attaining detection limits in the ppm and ppb range.

The S2 PICOFOX works based on the total reflection X-ray fluorescence (TXRF) analysis technique. An air-cooled X-ray tube with molybdenum target generates an X-ray beam reduced to a narrow energy range by a multi-layer monochromator.

The fine beam strikes a polished sample carrier at a very small angle less than 0.1° and is completely reflected. This technology ensures that almost all fluorescence radiation is produced by the tiny sample amounts on the carrier, resulting in high peak to background ratios and excellent analytical sensitivity.

The S2 PICOFOX is compact and allows mobile use for on-site measurements or measurements in the field. It is possible to obtain first results within minutes. The S2 PICOFOX works without any need for expensive consumables, gases or liquid nitrogen.
