Low-Pressure Carburization and High-Pressure Gas Quenching Furnaces

With the ARGOS line, Ipsen offers an advanced solution for large-scale production, featuring low-pressure carburization (AvaC®) with high-pressure gas quenching.

The ARGOS line features not only the optimal integration of heat treatment in the production process, but also generates outstanding, uniform heat treatment results – all with maximum process reliability and documentation.

Carburization Module

  • Cold wall system: Maximum process flexibility, for instance, due to the ability to quickly cool the internal furnace chamber from carburization to hardening temperature
  • Hot wall system: Energy-efficient with reduced heat loss due to better insulation
  • Simple, rapid installation and commissioning of this module/system, which is based on the plug-and-play standard and features a comprehensive modular system of the various components

Moving/Rotating Vacuum Module

  • There is no temperature loss during load transport between the carburization module and quenching, since the vacuum module is heated and controllable up to 1,100 °C (or higher, as an option)
  • The loader is positioned in the cold zone of the rotating/moving vacuum module
  • Frequency-controlled transport/rotary drive unit to enhance and reduce load transport times

High-Pressure Gas Quenching Module

  • Maximum quenching pressure: 20 bar (abs.)
  • Time-controlled, automatically reverse low direction
  • The flow-optimized design of the gas guide guarantees a even flow over the entire load surface
  • Large cooling surface allows for exceptional heat transfer to the cooling water
  • Compact housing design helps to lower consumption of cooling gas
  • Well-controlled gas delivery rate and velocity inside the total gas quenching module

Possible Heat Treatment Processes

  • Hardening
  • Low-pressure carbonitriding: (AvaC-N)
  • Low-pressure carburization: (AvaC)
  • Carburization temperatures up to 1,050 °C
  • High-pressure gas quenching with nitrogen up to 20 bar abs
