The SALD-2300 Laser Diffraction Particle Size Analyzer from Shimadzu is designed to analyze dry or wet samples across a broad particle concentration range of 0.1 ppm to 20%. It offers uninterrupted measurement in real time with a minimum of one-second intervals, for immediate analysis.
It provides a measurement range that spans particle sizes from 17 nm to 2,500 µm. With its high-resolution capabilities, the SALD-2300 enables the acquisition of data with many peaks. Additionally, it is possible to measure high-concentration samples without dilution, preventing agglomeration or dispersion.

For example, stainless balls with a diameter of 2 mm and PSL particles with a median diameter of 50 nm can be measured using a single analyzer. The system configuration can be improved to meet a number of purposes, uses, measurement objects, conditions, and environments.
Various sample amounts can be chosen based on measurement objects and purposes. Sample amount for SALD-MS23 is variable: 100 mL, 200 mL, or 300 mL. Sample amount for batch cell SALD-BC23 is 12 mL.
For high-concentration sample measurement system SALD-HC23, optional indentation can be applied for sample quantities ranging from 15µL to 150 µL.
High Sensitivity / High Concentration
By enabling measurement under broad particle concentration conditions ranging from 0.1 ppm to 20%, alterations in particle size distribution depending on particle concentration can be analyzed.
The sample’s particle concentration previously had to be altered to match the optimum conditions of analyzers by concentration or dilution using a centrifuge. In these situations, alterations in particle size distribution, such as dispersions or agglomerations, could not be considered.
In certain situations, dilutions can speed-up dispersions, but in other situations, they can develop agglomerates. To guarantee optimum, the initial particle concentration has to be established without concentrations or dilutions. After the analysis of particle size distribution at the preliminary state, the effects of particle concentration from dispersions and agglomerations has to be assessed.
A broad particle concentration range has to be covered to assess the dissolution process of sample particles, this is essential because the progress of dissolution makes the particle concentration low in relation to the first particle concentration.
The SALD-2300 is capable of measuring particle size distribution under the conditions of particle concentration ranging from 0.1ppm to 20%. When the sampler SALD-MS23 or batch cell SALD-BC23 is used, measurements can be done under conditions of concentration from 0.1 ppm to 100 ppm.
If the high-concentration sample measurement system SALD-HC23 is used, high-concentration samples up to 20% can be measured since the negative effects of numerous scattering are prevented.
