Low Pressure (5 - 7 PSIG) Burst Disks

MDC is excited to launch its new Low Pressure (LP) BDA-series burst disks for pressure relief below atmospheric pressure.

The LP burst disks, designed for use in UHV applications, feature all metal stainless steel constructions. These disks are ideal for overpressure protection of systems with optional gas recovery.

Applications

Most vacuum vessels are designed and constructed with internal vacuum joints and welds that are rated for an external load of one atmosphere. These vessels are not pressure vessels and hence should not be subjected to positive pressure loads.

MDC has produced a new Low Pressure BDA Burst Disk Series, which have an ultra low rupture pressure. MDC LP BA-Series burst disks are available with either 1.33 or 2.75 Del-Seal™ (CF style) metal seal flange connections. It is possible to fit these disks to any vacuum system where over pressurization is a concern. Connection to the gas recovery line is enabled by the 3.38” Del-Seal™ flange.

Design

Low pressure burst disks have been engineered to be compliant to ISO 4126-2. They are developed with a frustum designed metal membrane capable of sustaining a vacuum load.

The disk membrane activates and completely opens, as pressure inside a vacuum vessel reaches 5 PSIG, thus relieving the pressure in the system. The disk membrane does not cause harm to equipment or local personnel since it is circular scored, and thus prevents fragmenting upon rupture. After being activated, the disk is not reusable and must be replaced in order to restore the vessel to an operational condition.

ASME Overpressure (9 - 11.5 PSIG) Burst Disks

The ASME BDA-series from MDC is ASME UD certified burst disks suitable for pressure relief above atmospheric pressure. These disks are designed for use in UHV applications and feature an all-metal stainless steel construction. They are ideal for protecting a system from over pressurization of a vacuum vessel when pressures begin to creep up past atmospheric pressure.

Applications

A number of vacuum vessels are designed and constructed with internal vacuum joints and welds that have been rated for an external load of one atmosphere. They are not pressure vessels and thus should not be subjected to positive pressure loads in excess of 1 ATM.

For this purpose, MDC produced BDA disks that are ASME certified in order to prevent the accidental pressurizing of a vacuum vessel. MDC burst disks are available with either 1.33 or 2.75 Del-Seal™ (CF style) metal seal flange connections. It is also possible to fit these disks to any vacuum system where over pressurization is indeed a concern.

The disk membrane activates and fully opens, as pressure inside a vacuum vessel reaches 11.5 PSIG, thus relieving the pressure in the system.
