Non-Methane Hydrocarbon Analyzer – Series 9000 NMHC

Constant non-methane, methane and total hydrocarbons analysis based on a non-methane/methane calibration in noncondensing gases

The MOCON - Baeline Series 9000 NMHC is considered to be a microprocessor, flame ionization detector (FID)-based instrument that has been designed for constantly measuring the total content of hydrocarbons, methane and non-methane hydrocarbon in non-condensing gas samples in industrial or environmental settings. The analyzer is available in a wide range of configurations with internal components for multipoint or single sampling (without or with a sample pump) for pre-filtered (< 0.1 microns) non-condensing samples.

Detection limit down to < 60 ppb. User-programmable ranges from 1–1000 ppm (as methane, CH4) are factory-configured per the customer’s application in order to enable installation and setup.

MOCON, Inc. - Baseline’s FlowGuard electronic control is capable of regulating the delivery of air, fuel and a small portion of the sample gas, to the FID. A catalytic oxidizer is switched into and then out of a portion of the sample stream. The catalyst is responsible for oxidizing all hydrocarbons except methane, for a methane measurement. This is followed by automatically subtracting the methane value from the total hydrocarbon concentration in order to determine the non-methane hydrocarbon reading. The non-methane signal, referring to the difference of the two measured quantities, is considered to be more stable, decreasing systemic zero drift of the non-methane value.

All instrument parameters are clearly reported and continually refreshed on a large, graphical LCD display. Using analog, logic and digital output communication capabilities, analytical information from the analyzer can be attained using an external PC and a simple communications program such as Windows® HyperTerminal or the analyzer will be able to output ASCII or binary formats directly to a data acquisition system or PLC. Every Series 9000 analyzer comprises of MOCON, Inc. - Baseline's free PC utility 9000 Keeper used for storing and uploading multiple methods, and also for directly sending configuration settings to the analyzer.
