Digital and Analog CBR Test Apparatus

The California Bearing Ratio test (typically known as CBR test) is an empirical test created in California, USA. It defines the relative bearing ratio and expansion characteristics under known surcharge weight of base, sub-base, and sub-grade soils for the design of pavements, roads, and runways. The CBR test is used widely in the control of sub-grades and selection of materials.

The test can be performed in-situ on location or in the lab on prepared samples. Due to the empirical nature of the test, it is effective only for the application for which it was created i.e., the design of highway base thickness.

This load frame is designed for conducting Unconfined, CBR, Triaxial, and other routine tests.

The loading system includes a screw jack with detachable handle. The lower platen moves up and down. The top bracket is modifiable for vertical clearance and has an adaptor for connecting regular proving rings. A dial gage mounting bracket is fitted on one of the two pillars. Rate of strain: 1.00 and 1.27 mm/minute.
