Elementar’s vario TOC cube is an evolutionary and newly designed analyzer that is used for the determination of both organically and inorganically bound carbon concentrations present in liquid, slurry and solid samples.
The vario TOC cube’s ppb-sensitivity for measuring both TOC or TNb in aqueous solutions is combined with the highly accurate and reliable organic elemental analysis. In fact, this system is capable of automatically measuring samples containing carbon concentrations of up to 100% within any sample matrix.
Furthermore, the oxidation of bound carbon as a result of high temperature digestion and catalytic post combustion is achieved in a free selectable range of up to 1,200 °C.
The vario TOC cube exhibits measuring modes for TC/TIC, TOC/NPOC, POC and DOC. Any formed CO2 concentrations are easily purified through a halogen trap that is equipped with a subsequent 3-step intensive gas drying system.
To detect these CO2 concentrations, a super wide range NDIR-photometer, which exhibits an extraordinary linearity, is utilized. This system eliminates any potential spectral interferences that may occur, even against SO2, while maintaining an outstanding concentration range without requiring any prior sample dilution to occur.
A newly developed and patent pending matrix separation system ensures the long lasting and uninterrupted operation of this system for a wide range of samples, even those containing higher mineral concentrations, such as sea water. Finally, the determination of bound total nitrogen (TNb) as NO can also be achieved through the use of an optional electrochemical sensor (EC), infrared- (NDIR) or chemiluminescence detector (CLD) down to ppb level.
