The SPIR'ATOR prestressed power springs from Hunter Spring are made by reverse winding a NEG'ATOR spring on an arbor and encompassing it in a retaining ring or case. Rotational energy can be attained from either the case or arbor or, when linear motion is necessary, via the use of a pulley and cable attachment.
With torque and deflection being identical, a SPIR'ATOR commonly requires 20% less space than a traditional power spring, and also produces a flatter torque gradient.
Power springs are suitable for use in applications requiring winding, counterbalancing, and retrieving.
The Material
The prestressed power springs from Hunter Spring are manufactured using 301 High Yield Stainless Steel. Other materials including Inconel, Elgiloy, or high-carbon steel can be used as and when requested for tailored applications.
Key Features
- Compact and lightweight
- Low torque gradient produces usable torque across the operating range
- Higher prestressing largely allows the use of thinner material, therefore, a smaller package size than traditional power springs
- Can offer over two times the turns of a conventional power spring
Custom Springs
The prestressed power springs are not stocked by Hunter Spring. Springs are made for customer specific applications only. The design worksheet can be used to specify the requirements and allow the company’s Application Engineers to deliver a design to match specific needs.
