Hunter Spring provides an excellent selection of spring-powered cable reels that come with different mounting options. Also known as cable retractors, these spring reels offer a fast and low-cost solution for those applications where retrieving, counterbalancing, or returning functions are needed.
Hunter Spring has classified its spring reels in accordance with the mounting style. The company provides bracket-mounted reels, base-mounted reels, and arbor-mounted reels. Hunter Spring’s reels have a diameter range from 2.0” to 6.0” and can provide pull forces from 0.5 to 35.0 lbs. In addition, custom reels are available with up to 94 lbs of force.
Hunter Spring’s larger steel reels are often utilized as door closers on trains, airplanes, loading docks, trucks, and elevators. The smaller plastic reels from Hunter Spring are generally used as cable management devices or as tethering devices in retail displays or point of purchase.
In addition, the company provides a range of cable retractors that can offer either constant torque or constant force. Instead of a traditional power spring, these reels utilize a constant force spring (Negator). The reels are referred to as B-motors or spring motor assemblies.

Arbor-Mounted Reels
Hunter Spring’s arbor-mounted mechanical spring reels are specifically designed to mount onto a square shaft, and they are supplied with an exposed cable and spool that enable the end user to modify the spring tension.
Base-Mounted Reels
Hunter Spring’s base-mounted reels are available in plastic or metal as either closed or open constructions. These spring reels are compact and have a force range between 0.5 and 2.0 lbs.
Bracket-Mounted Reels
Bracket-mounted reels available from Hunter Spring are made of zinc-plated steel and come standard with nylon-coated galvanized steel cable. The spring reels have an exposed cable and spool that make it possible to adjust the spring tension.

Hunter Spring’s spring motors are a complete, “drop-in” solution developed for both rotary and linear counterbalance applications.
